A Simple Guide to Moving Items When Relocating your Business

Businesses looking to expand often find themselves needing a quick and efficient way to move their office space. This creates a major headache for many owners as working time is lost during a move. This is even more so when bad planning is involved. The article shows a few simple guidelines to a problem free move.

Congratulations if you are a business owner looking to expand your business and have found a new and better place to operate from. Now comes the difficult task of having a smooth move from your location to the new one. Many owners experience worry about the lost of working time which equals a lost of profit. Here are a few simple tips to follow when planning your move.

1. Planning
Draft out a list of items you can afford to pack first as they are not urgently needed, items like files, posters, signboards etc. Have the items packed by a specific date so that you would not have to worry about that on the moving day. Plan a day or two before the moving day to pack the rest of the items. You might have to stop work for those days so plan really carefully.

2. Hire a good mover
When it comes to movers, word of mouth works best. Ask around for any recommendations. Chances are other business owners around your area would have used a good mover before and would gladly recommend you one. As movers charge by the number of trips, you might want to save on that by getting your staff to move manageable items like laptops and coffee makers and getting the professionals to move the big items like the refrigerator and the photocopier.

3. Getting good quality packing
Nothing is worse than having things damaged during a move. That’s why the choice of packing box is so important. Whilst traditional cardboard boxes are great, they may not be able to withstand heavier items and are a huge waste of cardboard. You could consider a boomerang box. A boomerang box, like a boomerang, comes back instead of being thrown away. You rent these plastic boxes, move your items in them, and then return them. To hire a box saves you storage space and the environment.

4. Work with the renovators
While you are planning the move, your new place is probably being done up. Make sure you find out that the contractors have already finished the major construction before moving in. You certainly don’t want your staff to start work while drilling is going on! If they are working on a tight deadline, get the important things down first. After the floors, walls and ceiling are all done up, make sure the basic installation like electricity, water piping, doors and windows are done before moving in. The rest, like the touching up of paint or shelving can be done when your business has reopened.

With a new place comes new and exciting opportunities. Moving a business is always hard but absolutely necessary in today’s fast paced economy. Pat yourself, and your staff, on the back for a job well done for executing a well organised move.
